If Culture Shock ever got made into a film, who would you cast?
Last night we met friends who had listened to Culture Shock’s audiobook on a road trip and surprised me by showing up to Austin with all the characters cast as famous actors.
Needless to say, I was delighted.
In their version of the film, the hero would be played by Jeremy Renner. With his background as a superhero, he’d undoubtedly take the action scenes by storm while employing a dry wit to suit the wise-cracking bounty hunter Anderson Gunn.
Renner would play opposite Allison Brie as the blonde bombshell Annabelle Summers, CPA. Smart, secretive, stunning in heels.
Austin-native Matthew McConaughey would bring Alek Ludwig to life. McConaughey would need to grow a beer belly for the part of the bail bondsman, but that should be no problem for the shapeshifting dynamo.
Seth Rogan would lighten the mood as pizza chef/alien-in-hiding, Vinny, while Michelle Rodriguez would serve justice as detective Shiela Gonzalez. And let’s not forget Viola Davis (!!) as the Peacekeeper Dyna.
They even had the minor characters cast, but I don’t remember which actors they picked now. Kilos, Elekatch, even Marsha Marshall.
It’s so fun to imagine who might play these characters, if I ever got the opportunity. I’m thrilled that Gunn’s first adventure inspired two readers to be so thoughtful about their casting. They did an incredible job picking actors who fit the roles—both physically and personality-wise—and I loved every bit of the conversation we had about it.
Since I didn’t record that, I’ll happily settle for sharing this write-up with you. That way when I do get the call from Netflix, all I have to remember is where I put it.
No small feat.
