A few things I found interesting this week
Book. The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow by Cory Doctorow. I decided to splurge for this one as an ebook because I read a ton of Cory Doctorow’s work, especially on Boing Boing, totally for free, and it’s all good stuff.
Article. “Why Weird Al is Still the King of Spoof” at the New York Post
Article. “Speaking American” by Damian Fowler at the Paris Review
Book. The Modern Library Writer’s Workshop: A Guide to the Craft of Fiction which I found used at Half Price books before I left Austin in June. It’s thorough and, as a bonus, a treasure trove of writer’s quotes. Sometimes I think half the text is quotes but hey, professors, am I right?
Article. “In NSA-intercepted data, those not targeted far outnumber the foreigners who are” by Barton Gellman, Julie Tate and Ashkan Soltani, reporting on yet another Snowden leak. Jeff Jarvis remarked on Twitter: “I was just wondering whether the Snowden well was running dry. Far from it.” [sic]
Gifs. If, like myself, you’re a fan of U.S. World Cup Soccer, you’ll find this stack Juergen Klinsman and USMNT-related gifs enjoyable. My favorite:
